Bardia National Park in far-western Nepal is one of the country's largest and least-visited wilderness areas. Its pristine sal forests, grasslands, and Karnali River floodplains support a remarkable diversity of lowland birds. Often called the 'hidden gem' of Nepal birding, Bardia offers an off-the-beaten-path experience with excellent tiger and rhino encounters alongside outstanding birding.

Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Kathmandu. Upon arrival, our representative will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your respective hotel. After some rest, enjoy a traditional Nepali welcome dinner in the evening. A detailed tour briefing will be conducted, covering birding plans, target owl species, logistics, safety, and photography preparation.
After early breakfast, transfer to the domestic terminal for a scenic flight to Nepalgunj (approx. 1 hour). Upon arrival, drive through the subtropical Terail and scape to Bardiya National Park (approx. 2–3 hours).After check-in at Samsara Safari Camp, enjoy a relaxed birding session around the buffer zone forest and nearby wetlands. Possible Species: Indian Scops Owl, Asian Barred Owlet, Asian Green Bee-eater, Great Slaty Woodpecker.
Begin early morning jeep safari into the pristine wilderness of Bardia National Park, one of Nepal’s best destinations for owl-focused birding and wildlife photography. Explore riverine forests, grasslands, and Sal forest habitats in search of Mottled Wood Owl, Indian Scops Owl, Great Hornbill, Streaked Woodpecker, Indian nuthatch, Changeable hawk Eagle. Besides birds, opportunities for sightings of Bengal Tiger, Asian Elephant, One-horned Rhinoceros, Swamp Deer, Hog Deer, and various raptors are excellent. Packed lunch will be served inside the park before continuing safari activities until late afternoon.
Set out at dawn for a guided jungle walk through forest trails, riverbeds, and grasslands. Moving quietly on foot offers exceptional chances for locating roosting owls and forest birds. Target species may include Collared Scops, Mottled wood owl, Red-napped Ibis, Sarus Crane. After midday rest, spend the afternoon at a strategically placed wildlife photography hide near a watering hole, ideal for observing and photographing tigers, deer, and other wildlife.
Early morning last birding session. Transfer to Nepalgunj for afternoon flight back to Kathmandu.
Spend the day birdwatching in one of the richest birding areas near Kathmandu. Highlights include Striated Laughingthrush, Himalayan Cutia, White browed fulvetta, Small Niltava, and Sikkim Treecreeper. Return to Kathmandu for your final overnight stay.
After breakfast, enjoy some free time before your transfer to the airport for departure. We bid you farewell with unforgettable memories of the Himalayas, wildlife, and birding adventures.
