Start early in the morning (around 4:00–5:00 AM) with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Phulchoki Hill, Nepal's premier birdwatching destination. The 1.5–2 hour journey passes through traditional villages before climbing into lush mountain forests. Upon arrival, begin birding in the upper forest zone, where morning activity is at its peak. Walk at a relaxed pace through pristine oak, rhododendron, and mixed broadleaf forests, making frequent stops to observe, photograph, and listen to the calls of Himalayan birds. Phulchoki is home to over 300 bird species, and depending on the season, highlights may include the Himalayan Cutia, Kalij Pheasant, Red-billed Leiothrix, Darjeeling Woodpecker, Rufous Sibia, Black-throated Tit, and many other forest specialists. After an enjoyable morning immersed in nature, return to Kathmandu, arriving in evening.
